On your self-guided visit to Edinburgh Castle, start by walking through the Castle Esplanade, where you’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views of Edinburgh. Step inside to explore the Crown Room, home to the Honours of Scotland (Crown Jewels) and the legendary Stone of Destiny. Visit the Great Hall and St. Margaret’s Chapel, the castle’s oldest surviving building, before seeing the mighty Mons Meg, a massive medieval cannon. Time your visit to witness the One O’Clock Gun firing (daily except Sundays). Finish your tour with the National War Museum and the eerie Prison Vaults, where you’ll uncover stories of past battles and captives.
